Tyrone Area High School Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate with a TASD high school diploma, students must fulfill FIVE criteria:

Coursework Completion
Satisfactory completion of the Senior Project
Adherence to the TASD attendance policy, as described in the Student Handbook
Community Service - 15 hours
Fulfill the requirements of one PA Graduation Pathway

Community Service

Community Service – Must be fulfilled by May 1^st of the senior year to be eligible to participate in graduation ceremonies.

Students can start to accumulate community service hours upon completion of eighth grade. Activities in which students can participate include volunteering time to help others, youth coaching, volunteering with the elderly, helping a neighbor in need, giving blood, as well as numerous other activities not listed here.

Any community service class or projects for which the student received compensation, either monetary or a grade and credit, cannot be used toward the 15 hour requirement.

For each activity, students need to complete a Community Service Form and return it to the high school counseling office. Forms can be obtained in the office or from the high school counseling webpage.

PA Graduation Pathways

PA Graduation Pathways – Students must fulfill the requirements of ONE of the five Pathways.

Every student will take the three Keystone Exams: Biology, Literature, and Algebra. The student’s scores on those exams will be a part of the decision about which Pathway the student is able to fulfill. Pathways 1 and 2 involve only scores on the Keystone Exams and are the most efficient means of fulfilling the Pathway requirement.

Pathway 3 – Career & Technical Pathway

If the student did not score Proficient or Advanced on a Keystone Exam but achieved a passing final grade in the corresponding course of that Exam, and the student has earned an industry-based certification related to their Career & Technical Education program of study or demonstrates a high likelihood of success on an approved industry-based competency assessment or readiness for continued meaningful engagement in the Career & Technical Education program of study, this Pathway has been fulfilled.
